Doctors Without Borders: People in the villages of Bamyan do not have access to health services
The Doctors Without Borders organization has announced that the residents of remote villages in Bamyan province do not have access to the necessary health services. This institution wrote in a tweet today (Thursday, 11th of Gemini) that after the fall of the previous government, it has become “difficult” for villagers to access basic health services in Bamyan province. According to Doctors Without Borders report, 90% of Bamyan province is mountainous and only eight new health centers have been established this year. Doctors without a center organization has said that this area is the place where the Hazara community lives; A historically marginalized and still impoverished people who live in small, remote villages without adequate access to basic health care. This institution added that it is estimated that in 2022, more than 40% of women who became mothers for the first time in Bamyan province gave birth to their babies at home without the necessary health care. According to the information of this organization, until now, it has provided more than 1,200 prenatal and postnatal counseling and more than 3,400 “children’s counseling” to the villagers of Bamyan. This organization added that they examined 1,200 children in terms of malnutrition and referred 75% of patients with complex health problems to Bamyan Provincial Hospital. Doctors Without Borders announced that in the second half of 2023, it will further develop its services in Bamyan province and remote areas. It should be mentioned that Bamyan province is located in the center of Afghanistan and this province is considered one of the most deprived provinces in the country and its residents do not have access to many other basic services in addition to health services.
