Ocha: Little investment in reducing the risks of natural disasters has increased peoples vulnerability

OCHA, or the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid for Afghanistan, says that more than three decades of war and the lack of a suitable and adequate strategy regarding the recognition of the risk caused by natural disasters in the country have caused the number of vulnerable people to increase every day. This organization has written in a tweet today (Thursday, 11th of Gemini) that there has not been enough investment in planning and raising awareness about the risks caused by natural disasters, especially floods in Afghanistan. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid emphasized that this has increased the vulnerability of the Afghan people in dealing with natural disasters such as floods. Ocha did not provide further details on this matter. This organization makes these statements while the Ministry of Combating Natural Disasters of the caretaker government said two days ago that more than 20 people were killed and 120 others were injured due to the recent floods in different parts of the country. Afghanistan is one of the countries vulnerable to climate change, which has always witnessed the occurrence of natural events such as floods. Earlier, Ocha also said that with the beginning of spring, heavy rains and floods have affected more than a thousand families in Afghanistan. This organization emphasized that aid agencies are evaluating the effects and providing aid if needed. The organization added that the limited budget has limited the ability of donor organizations.
